Major Movie Studio, Los Angeles, California

A Major LA Movie Studio needed a new building to house its news broadcast network. For this project, a parking basement was proposed with depths ranging from 35 to 55 feet. Adjacent to one side of the excavation were soundstages for a top-rated television show. It was imperative that the design be installed easily and quickly, allowing no ground loss that might disturb production at the adjacent facility. A system of soldier piles, lagging and low-pressure augured tiebacks provided the solution for retaining the surrounding soil to facilitate installation of the basement.
